Toxic Ocean
copyright©2011 Karen Blundell
I heard the dolphins cry in a dream last night -
They cried “Swim! Swim far away from this place!”
And in my dream I felt their pain and I knew their plight -
For it was the beginning of the end of their race.
Toxic ocean – you’ve killed them all -
The loving dolphins and many a whale.
I never thought I’d live to see the fall
Of planet earth and the epic fail
Of mad science, which it is -
Made the toxic ocean what it is.
Oh they tell us all not to fear
The poison that is spreading in the air -
But they ruined that which we hold dear
Never once caring about how we all fare!
Toxic ocean – you’ve killed them all
The loving dolphins and many a whale.
I never thought I’d live to see the fall
Of planet earth and the epic fail
Of mad science, which it is -
Made the toxic ocean what it is.
Oh toxic ocean, why have you killed them all -
The loving dolphins and many a whale?
I never thought I’d live to see the fall
Of planet earth and the epic fail
Of mad science, which it is!
Made the toxic ocean what it is.
oh! Mad science made the toxic ocean what it is.
What a Shame
Isn’t it a shame
She had to change her name?
She hated the fame
And loathed the game.
Now she hides behind dark glasses
And turns her face as she passes
To avoid the glaring lights -
She embraces the darkest nights.
Soon forgotten, once a rising star
Whom many worshipped from afar -
What a shame -
She changed her name.
If I Could Only Be Like You

I’ve been to so many places -
I’ve seen only empty faces -
And I have yet to ever find -
Someone like you who blows my mind.
You are alive in every way -
You’re not afraid what people say -
You do the things you want to do -
If I could only be like you.
You don’t worry about a thing -
You do your best in everything -
Always living all of your dreams -
You are happy – or so it seems.
You are alive in every way -
You’re not afraid what people say -
You do the things you want to do -
If I could only be like you.
Putty in Your Hands

I should have known it – how could I tell
There’d be someone else as well -
Not just me, your friend with the smile
Who would rescue you from the darkness once in a while
When you might have felt the need.
You planted the very first seed
Of my burning desire
And I let myself get mesmerized by your fire.
I was like putty in your hands
Oh, I remember those artist’s hands -
They caressed and they teased
And they liked to please -
And they did.
And you did.
Going Back East
Summer is approaching and there’s an aching in my heart -
Time has lost it’s meaning since we’ve been apart -
I never knew how much I loved you
until I got onboard that train -
When it pulled out from the station,
I saw you smile despite the pain.
Going back to a fast-moving city -
Trying to find what you couldn’t give me -
Going back East to start over again -
Got to say goodbye now, Vancouver rain -
Who knows what could happen if I see you again!
Still I keep on thinking about the things we used to do -
Most times you made me happy,
but sometimes you hurt me too -
I didn’t really want to leave you all alone -
But I knew if I didn’t leave you then,
I’d never come back home.
Going back to a fast-moving city -
Trying to find what you couldn’t give me -
Going back East to start over again -
Got to say goodbye now, Vancouver rain -
Who knows what could happen if I see you again!
