Before You Buy Anything – Do a Google Search for a Product Review

March 7th, 2011

I’ve done it, maybe you’ve done it too.

Done what, you ask?

Bought something that was supposed to accomplish something, and it fell short of the hype surrounding it. Like maybe you saw a commercial on TV about a certain cleaner that was supposed to remove stains like magic. So you buy it to try it out. And then not only does it not take out any stains whatsoever, but it leaves a residue on the surface you were cleaning so now it’s created even more work for you.

So then what do you do?

Maybe you’re pissed off enough to go back to the store where you bought the cleaner and you demand a refund. You get your refund, and that’s it. The company still produces the crappy cleaner and other buyers get ripped off too because there was no way for them to know how crappy the product is.

Well, times have changed. The internet and in particular social media has made it very very easy for news to spread, like wildfire. People are using the power of the internet to get the word out about bad products and services. People are using social media to publish the truth, and businesses are being held accountable. That’s a good thing for consumers and not so good for corporations who are only concerned about making money and don’t really care about their customers.

I know that from now on, if there’s something I buy that is totally crap, I’m going to blog about it, Tweet it, post it on Facebook, so that other people don’t get scammed. After all, it’s the right thing to do, don’t you think?
