Your Feedback Is Needed, Please
I’m in the process of writing an e-book and I’m hoping to get some input from you so that I can get a feel about how much you’d pay for a good digital product. As always I value your opinions.

Hey Karen,
Pretty much all the ebooks I have, I received for free. They did however involve subscribing to a newsletter or email list. The majority of emarketers use ebooks to build their prospect lists so they can up sell them on other products (and cross sell them on affiliate products) later on.
Cheers

Hi Karen. As I voted in your poll, it depends on the subject matter of the e-Book.
I’ve written two e-Books and working on a third right now.
For my first two e-Books, I gave the first chapter away for free and then charged for the full e-Book.
The first e-Book (Hack Proofing XML) which was 102 pages – I charged $15.00 USD and the second book (Securing WordPress plugins) which was 208 pages – I charged $30.00 USD.
My third e-Book, which has now been in production for almost a year is about SEO and comparing things about the top 3 search engines from an insiders view and how to improve your overall traffic, ranking, etc. and of course what I am writing about is an insider view to all three companies from an employee or contractor standpoint.
I plan on charging $40.00 USD for this e-Book and allowing free updates for one year because things do change with SEO and I want people to have the most up-to-date information.
Anyway, this must be the longest comment I’ve ever written. Hehe. Next time I’ll just email you

Hi Sally,
Thanks for your comment. Yes, I too have downloaded lots of free e-books upon subscribing to newsletters, but I’ve also paid for ebooks too if it was information I wanted to have and didn’t have the time to research the free info.

Hi Sean,
Woohoo, this is great feedback! I like your idea of giving away a free chapter. I plan on giving away something with the ebook too, perhaps a free XHTML template or WordPress theme which won’t be available anywhere else, only to purchasers of the book. Thanks for a great comment.

Hi Karen,
It really depends on the topic. I’d pay up to $47.00 for something I was really interested in. The idea of a bonus and first chapter is always appealing and then you could do an upsell to your book and other products.
Good luck

No problem. Many people do buy ebooks, and spend anywhere from $1-100 I just don’t happen to be one of them. If you have already made up your mind that you want to sell yours, then I”d suggest rewording your question to weed out those who don’t buy at all, so you are left with the feedback you want. You may also want to leave a comments field for topics they’ve paid for. But regardless of that, even with the ones who buy and sell mention that there’s usually something ‘free’ involved as an incentive, which was also my point. Good luck with your book!
