Thank you for stopping by and your great comment. I have to say that I’m getting tired of seeing deserving performers insulted on live TV. This is my 4th season watching the show and I guess the joy of watching good talent perform has been tarnished somewhat.

You’re right. What you see of the song on the program, needs a little explanation before it’s presented. Seen in contest of the whole presentation of Jesus Christ, Superstar, it’s a great song. But, if the kids are voting, most are too young to be familiar with the show (Jesus Christ Superstar). So on Idol, it could appear to be sacriligeous. However, at the time it first came out, it was seen as a way for youth to celebrate Christ and their own faith.

I guess Carly just sang a great song very well, but in the wrong place.

Thanks for the UTube clip. I quit watching American Idol. I can’t stand seeing a fine performer get kicked in the gut by someone who is pretty much paid to do it.

Thanks for your great comment. I agree with you regarding Ben Mulroney. He can be more annoying than Ryan Seacrest!

Pagan Temple: Thanks for stopping in and your insightful comment. Carly had another choice of songs before she decided on that one, which Andrew Lloyd Webber suggested she do so that it could highlight her powerful vocals. That backfired!

I liked her too, but that was a stupid song choice. Nothing about religious sensibilities so much as it is just not a song that works well outside the context of the musical Jesus Christ Superstar.

I Don’t Know How To Love Him would have been a much better choice.

Carly Smithson’s powerful, truly emotional performances of one of my all-time favourite songs from my second most favourite Andrew Lloyd Weber musical (Phantom of the Opera still takes the #1 spot) is absolutely fabulous. I can’t stomach the show, but certainly would have watched if I’d known she was doing it.

I must agree with you, Ms. Blundell, the “voting system” on both American and Canadian Idol shows stinks. About the only thing going for the Yankee version is that they don’t have Ben Mulroney, but they can have him any time they want – PLEASE!

As a former Niagara Region resident – yes, I’m a Canuck – I agree with what you said. I just hope Welland’s nose isn’t quite as high in the air as St. Catharine s’ is.
