The Power of Positive Affirmations

September 30, 2006

It’s so easy to succumb to negative thinking, especially when things all around you seem to be falling apart, or you’re surrounded by negative people.

I read somewhere that most people have negative thoughts 75% of the time. That’s a scary thought. No wonder there is so much stress and illnesses among people today!

For the last year or so I have been taking baby steps to improve my life in a positive way. There are sites I visit every morning when I turn on the computer. I look for sites that have some positive message for me so that I can continue my day feeling upbeat and calm as I deal with all the things that I have to do.

I have been reading about the power of positive affirmations and how repeating them over and over with an emotional attachment to them can change your life. It seems your thoughts create the life you have. So of course, I decided to pay attention to all the things I think about during any given day. I am shocked to discover how easily it is to let thoughts in that don’t help me but make me feel sad, guilty or insecure. When that happens, now I write little positive sticky notes and paste them around my desk so that I can focus on them instead of the little nagging negative thoughts that pop up.

Last night I wrote one that I’m going to focus on this weekend:
I give myself permission to be happy, healthy and prosperous.

I’d love to hear from you about this subject. Let me know how you overcome negativity and stress and what works for you.

Here’s a graphic I created in Bryce today to give me a peaceful feeling. I hope you like it. :)

Take care and have a great day!

That’s a very interesting subject. Positive affirmations really work.

Setting useful targets also help to improve your life.
That can be as simple like painting the shed. I did that a few weeks ago and it rewards every time you look at it.
I bet the neighbours around me were glad too I finally did it… but things like that are also improvements of your circumstances.

Finding people that share the same way of thinking helps too. Some can be a few steps further then yourself so you can learn from them.

I use an affirmation that seems to work pretty well against stress:
I don’t have to prove anything on internet. I am what I am; also on internet.
    Another one is:
I take steps only one at a time.

    I agree, Frits
setting goals, even small daily goals really helps improve our lives as we accomplish them we feel a sense of pride and self worth

a lot of people stress about money so as wrote in the email I sent you…

    here\’s one for day:
I have plenty of money for all my needs.

That’s a very good affirmation too that takes away a lot of stress.
But you have to keep your mind straight because it doesn’t grow on the trees :)

Caren, you didn’t determine what exactly the negative thoughts are or look like, sometimes it’s just different point of views.

    you’re right, Mag.

we all have different ways of looking at things. What may seem negative to one person, isn’t for another, etc.

One person’s glass may be half full, another’s half empty.

I just find for me, starting the day with a couple of positive affirmations keeps me going.
