News for Visitors and Subscribers
I’ve installed a “captcha” system for comments to reduce comment spam. I did not like Bad Behavior because it began blocking friends and doing all kinds of wonky things and have removed it. I have no interest in upgrading to another version. I just don’t have time to mess with things if they go wrong again.
If you are a subscriber to this site please login to add a comment if you want to bypass this extra security. If you are a regular visitor, please consider registering.
Update: January 12, 2007: I decided to try the latest version of Bad Behavior after all because the issues I was having should be resolved in this release. So I’ve disabled the Captcha for now. If you have any problems posting comments, please do let me know.

Captcha’s are not section 508 compliant and don’t work on all systems, so you need an alternative method for this.
Bad Behavior is really good and does an amazing job. If you need help with it, let me know. There are ways to prevent false positives with it.
By saying “I have no interest in upgrading to another version” is so unlike you Karen.
Being a good web person and someone who helps others with computers, you should rethink that statement.
Are you saying when WordPress upgrades again, which it’s coming in about a week, you won’t upgrade? Taking a few minutes to do upgrades to save hours of headache and security risks seems worth it.
Just my two cents… but again, if you need help with Bad Behavior, let me know. I use it as you know and having a blog with a lot of traffic, I make sure to not block people.

Yes, I got blocked Sean.

That shouldn’t happen, should it?

I tried implementing a Captcha but couldn’t get my head around it! Then a friend wrote a simple PHP program for me where I can set my own “magic word”. It’s no rocket science, but my spam has completely stopped! I’ve even put it up for download on my site.
Maybe I should try Bad Behavior too.

isn’t comment spam a pain, Payal?
between Akismet and Bad Behavior’s latest release, I think I have this handled…
time will tell
