Free template sites are springing up all over the place and they are attracting many members and budding new designers. The use of free XHTML and CSS templates is very popular because the average user can quickly and easily have a website up with very little work. With only a few changes to the stylesheet, it’s very easy to customize a free template and make it look like your own work. Using free XHTML templates enables the user to have a website that adheres to the current web standards, and is quick to load.

New web designers download free XHTML templates to learn by taking the template and stylesheet apart so that they can create their own work. Many designers who belong to open source communities are very good at helping each other out, at least that’s been my experience, so the learning curve is not so steep.

The only downside to using free XHTML templates is that your site may look very similar to many other sites. So if you want your site to be different, then hire a web designer, like me, to create a custom template or complete web site for you. But if originality is not important to you, then by all means, use the free XHTML templates here or elsewhere and get your site up and running in no time.
