Create An Internet Income From Nothing

February 28th, 2009

Now I don’t write this post to bore you to death about my life, and how I started earning a living online. This is about you and how anyone with passion, desire, and willingness to take risks, can start working part-time and turn it to full-time, from home, doing what you love!

It is really not too difficult and it’s relatively inexpensive to start making a living online. Using free software such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, etc., which come ready to install in a couple of clicks with most paid hosting accounts, anyone can create a niche site in a matter of a few days.

WordPress niche sites are goldmines and are relatively easy to manage. That is what makes it so popular and a good choice to making money online quickly. If you make your WordPress site unique and have quality content, you’re well on your way.

Don’t use free sites to run your business if you want to have any credibility. You want a successful online business? Ok! Be willing to spend less than $50 to get going. Using a free site for your business tells potential buyers that you are not willing to invest in yourself, so why should they buy from you? Capiche? Ok…let’s move on.

The first thing you want to do is try and register a good keyword-rich domain name. The name of your niche should be in the name of the domain if possible. Try different keyword combinations until you are satisfied. This may take some research and time but it is worth learning more about how to target the right keywords for the maximum profits. There are lots of free tools you can use to conduct this research but don’t over-think this too much. Remember to always think of your target market first. What can your blog do for them?

So you’ve registered your domain. Now go get some hosting. Shop around. I always go for the hosting companies that allow you to host more than one domain and that have a cPanel which includes the Fantastico scripts with the hosting so that you can do a one-click install of your WordPress blog. The costs range anywhere from $5 a month and up. You can pay monthly in a lot of cases with no contract. Some hosting companies offer plans where you can save yourself money by paying annually.

You can learn all the basics about setting up your self-hosted blog for free by visiting WordPress.tv . Once you’ve tweaked your blog and added all the plugins and widgets you want (and you’ll probably always continue to improve your blog when you get the hang of it), start creating at least 10-20 posts (articles). They don’t have to be long but they should be unique. Don’t use spinners and don’t scrape!

So now you have content. Now you need to make your site viral. You do this by giving something away for free. You must build trust somehow and be considered an authority in your niche. So the more free articles you write and submit which link back to your blog, the more you comment properly on other blogs that compliment yours, the more you help out others in forums and communities relating to your niche, the more you use social bookmarking, submit your feeds and do all these things at no cost to you, you will have good free traffic coming to your site.

How much free traffic you get depends on how much time you are spending on these tasks. There are countless of ways to get traffic coming to your blog using online and offline resources.

The making money from your blog part can be accomplished in a number of ways:

  • You offer a service from your blog
  • You sell other people’s products from your blog (affiliate marketing)
  • You create your own products to sell from your blog
  • You sell advertising from your blog
  • You do a combination of all of the above so that you have multiple streams of income

Now here’s when you start to make serious money. You have 1 blog making you an income. It makes you an income almost on autopilot, by putting in a few minutes each day into it. Once you have this 1 blog doing that for you, what’s stopping you from creating another, and another? If you have to, you can outsource some of the work once you are earning enough. You can build a blog empire in a few short months. You can do what a few smart bloggers have done. Build a blog and put tons and tons of content into it and then sell it for some serious money.

The possibilities are limitless. Don’t let fears about the current economy or anybody stop you from creating an Internet income from nothing. It has been done, continues to be done and you can do it, too. And if you need help, just holler! :)

I agree that it is possible to make money online but it takes educating yourself and being persistant. It’s also important to know that it will take time – it’s not an over night to riches thing.
    Thanks for all the tips.

Hi Luca, thanks for the comment and for visiting. The amount of time it takes to start generating revenue online is directly related to how much effort is put into making it happen.

you’re welcome, Sheila. There is always something new to learn. The Internet is evolving. Lots of new ways to do stuff and lots of opportunities. The biggest challenge I think most folks have is staying focused and not suffering from information overload.

What a facinating article. I’m looking for a marketing expert to help with a project, could you help?

  6. Karen Says:

Hi John…thanks for visiting and for your comment. I’m not sure if I would call myself an expert but I have learned a thing or two from doing this stuff since 1997 ;) I’ll contact you shortly regarding your project.\

you know what? Scratch what I said above. I have not been as confident as I should be about my accomplishments.
I checked my Alexa rankings lately. I was stunned considering the millions of websites that exist. I have become an expert at getting sites linking to me by giving away free stuff, writing articles on other sites, and particpating in communities. In other words, implementing totally FREE marketing.

Alexa says I have 156 sites linking to me. I know it’s much more because of the thousands of downloads my free XHTML templates and WordPress themes have produced. Giving something away free with your link on it is the single most viral thing you can do for your site. :)
