Get Ready For WordPress Upgrades

June 6th, 2009

So far, it has been very easy for us to upgrade from WordPress 2.7 to 2.7.1 because of the built-in upgrade button and without the need of additional WordPress plugins.

But according to this latest news we all should ensure our hosting accounts have the right stuff on our servers.

First of all, you need to make sure your host has PHP 5. For those of you who have a hosting cPanel, all you have to do is this:

  • Login to your hosting cPanel
  • Scroll down the page to Software/Services
  • Click on “PHP Configuration”

cp1

You’ll see a page which contains a drop down menu with 3 PHP choices. Select PHP 5 and then click “Update”.
cp21

cp3
Now go back to your cPanel home page and along the left side you will see some facts about your server. You want to make sure your server is running PHP5, and has the updated MySQL databases: MySQL 4.1.22 .

Should your hosting not have the updated versions of PHP5 and MySQL databases, you will need to talk to them or unfortunately change hosts if you want to upgrade to later versions of WordPress.

If you need some more help, please take at look at the services I offer, and I would be happy to work with you to solve your upgrade challenges.

Happy WordPress blogging!
