NextGEN Gallery Plugin and Widget for WordPress
I thought it was high time I search for a better gallery than the one I was using to showcase my fractals.
NextGEN Gallery Plugin and Widget for WordPress is the perfect solution. It has a ton of options and it looks pretty slick too. I am very impressed with it so far and I’m recommending it to anyone who wants a nice gallery for their blog.
David Potter has written a superb and extensive review of the plugin and it gives you a very good idea how to use it.
Here’s a small demo gallery I created of some of my creative experiments using a really old version of Bryce 3D. What do you think of the plugin?

I can only second this. Nextgen Gallery is the coolest gallery plugin around. Just a side note .. did you watch the thickbox effect in IE? It displays the images in the lower part of the viewport and you can see them only in half. This is why I have changed the effect in the gallery options from thickbox to shutter. It just requires the plugin “shutter reloaded”. Or you can install a lightbox plugin and use the lightbox effect. Personally I like the shutter effect since the shutter script is really small so it is good for the loading time too.

Hi Esther,
thanks for your comment. I don’t notice the IE problem at all. Hmm, that is strange. I wonder is it only an IE6 problem or is it also IE7? Thanks for your tips though and I will definately try the shutter effect as you suggested.

well, that was easy. As Esther recommended above in her comment, I downloaded the plugin Shutter Reloaded and it seems to really work great!

Hi,
I also just installed that Gallery and it seems the way to go. The only problem is that I wish there was a way to integrate each image in the gallery with any “Star Rating” plugin - any ideas?

Thanks for your comment, Jack. No, no ideas really but it would be cool for sure!
It definitely merits some more research as to how to further customize the gallery and I’ll be following this plugin with interest to see if significant changes will be made to it, ie new features.
