WordPress 2.9.1- More Installation Headaches

January 5th, 2010

As much as I love WordPress, this is getting real old fast. One of the best things to happen for users was the one-click upgrade from within your WordPress dashboard. However, for both WordPress 2.9 and 2.9.1, I’ve had to manually upgrade. And judging from what others have posted over at WordPress.org forums, I’m not the only one.

Up until WordPress 2.8.6, the automatic upgrade worked perfectly. Of course there were a few plugins that I had to replace along the way, but that is to be expected because plugin developers are always playing catch-up with the WordPress devs.

I’d really like to know why the automatic upgrade is not working for a lot of us and I hope to get some answers soon before the next upgrade. Now I have several blogs to upgrade, and you know, I’m in no hurry to subject myself to the hassle. (end rant) :(

Update: Well, I tried something today to see if it would solve the problem…and it sort of did, so my problems are likely because of an older database, which I repaired. I did the repair on 3 other blogs, and though the one-click upgrade still stalled, it eventually worked. I did have to keep deleting the “maintenance” file…so it’s still a bit glitchy, but this must be a server-side and not a WordPress bug.
