WordPress 2.9 Installation Troubleshooting
So far I’ve updated 3 of my blogs to WordPress 2.9 and for all 3 upgrades the automatic upgrade did not work and I had to do it manually via FTP. That one problem alone is going to drive users crazy, I just know it.
The other problem I ran into was I had to get my web host to increase the PHP memory limit to 64M because defining the memory in the .htaccess file or the wp-config file resulted in server errors. So my host was happy to oblige. They put an updated php.ini file in my public_html folder, but that still did not resolve the error messages I was getting in my Dashboard feeds, so then I copied the php.ini file to my wp-admin and wp-includes folders, and that did the job!
I’m happy to announce that all my WordPress themes are still compatible with WordPress 2.9, though I have not updated them yet to include threaded comments. If you are using one of my themes, and wish to have threaded comments enabled, please let me know. Other than that, there should be no other issues that I’m aware of.
Have you upgraded to WordPress 2.9 yet? If so, did you have any issues? Your comments are always welcome.

Something is wrong with your server configuration if putting the php.ini file in your wp-admin and wp-includes folders fixed this issue. I would contact your host support again and let them know this so whatever the issue is can be fixed.
In other news, glad you finally got WP 2.9 working. You will love all the improvements and feature enhancements for sure.

Hey Sean, I guess you haven’t visited the WordPress.org forum since 2.9 was released. Apparently I’m not the only one having similar issues. There are a lot of unhappy WP users, for sure.
Yeah, I found it odd that I needed to put copies of php.ini in more than just the public_html folder, but I’m just happy it works. I’ve noticed a couple of enhancements I like, but time will tell if they are actually useful.
I have one more blog to update

Hi Tara, thanks for visiting. I don’t know whether it was a server issue or something WordPress-related…but anyway, now that it’s installed, everything works fine!
