WordPress 2.3 Upgrade Complete
I have finished my upgrade to WordPress 2.3 with out too many problems. A couple of plugins had to be upgraded and some plugins that I upgraded don’t work correctly.
SiteMap Generator Plugin by Dagon Design is a great plugin but it is currently giving me and others database errors relating to the category table. I hope it gets fixed soon.
YouTube Brackets is a nifty plugin that enables you to easily insert YouTube videos into your posts. Last fall I collaborated with the Robert Buznik to fix version 1 of his plugin so that it would insert valid code when used in a post. His newest version 1.1 is back to being invalid as “embed” is not an allowable tag. Luckily his old version still works with the latest WordPress.
I’m off to upgrade another 5 blogs. I’m sure all will go smoothly, she says with her fingers crossed ![]()
Did you have any problems with plugins not working after you upgraded to 2.3?

Haven’t started yet… but need to soon. Did you manually upgrade or use Fantastico? What are the pros/cons of either way?

Hi Shawn,
I manually did the upgrades to 4 blogs so far. My version of Fantastico didn’t have the upgrade available yet from my cpanel but I kind of got in the habbit of doing manual installs via FTP, anyway.
The pros of Fantastico is that it’s really quick! Cons: You are not in control of what files get upgraded.
Pros of manual upgrade: more control of which files get over-written or upgraded
Cons: slower more methodical method.

No problems really, I backed up the whole databse first, then backed up comments and posts each. (had a plan with all that).
In the end I deleted everything, and just uploaded the comments and posts to the new 2.3 installation, works perfectly.

I’m glad it worked out for you, Robbie. I quite like the newest version of WordPress. It seems pretty stable to me.
