WordPress 2.6 Sparks Anger Among Users
It never ceases to amaze me how some people have a sense of entitlement when it comes to using Open Source templates, themes, or free software. I have the utmost respect for people who contribute their time and their talent, for free. WordPress devs continually strive to improve the software, and even though in my previous post I sounded a little irritated with all the upgrades, I really do appreciate the work that goes into making WordPress better and better for all of us.
What makes it tricky is that WordPress plugin authors don’t always catch up on time with new releases so sometimes plugins aren’t compatible with the current version. It’s annoying, yes, but certainly it is not the WordPress devs’ fault.
What sparked this post today was that I was browsing the WordPress Installation forums yesterday, and many people are having all sorts of problems with WordPress 2.6. Some people are actually complaining and telling people not to upgrade. Not to sound like a meanie, but people seem to not follow instructions very well. Or they don’t understand the instructions, perhaps. WordPress is not really hard to learn if you are open to learning and not afraid to ask questions. There are lots of people willing to help, if you ask nicely and don’t act like a jerk.
Anyway, I updated several blogs of my own and 3 client blogs with absolutely no glitches. I really like this newest version especially since they fixed the “add media” tools. WordPress 2.6 rocks as far as I’m concerned.
