WordPress Incoming Links Sometimes Bring Unwelcome Surprises

Posted by Karen - March 14th, 2007

I have no control over how people use my free XHTML templates and WordPress themes. It doesn’t matter which license I release them under, once they’re released, anyone can put whatever content they want on them, and there’s nothing I can do, really.

Whenever I log into my admin panel in WordPress I always check the incoming links to see what WordPress blogs are linking to me. Mostly they are friends or people who have chosen my themes for their personal blogs and everything is wonderful. Tonight I went to a site and was appalled to discover that it was a porn site using my popular Translucent Fluidity theme. So the only thing I could do was leave a comment and ask them to kindly remove the link to my site. I really hope they comply. If not, the next step is to contact their hosting company, which after checking the whois records, I’m prepared to do. It will be interesting to see
if they violated the host’s TOS with the site’s content. Any bets they did?
